This page is mostly neglected these days.  Below you can find a bunch of session recordings, mostly from the old Tommy Doyle's (aka the old old House of Blues) in Harvard Square.  I hosted that session, mostly along with Seán Connor, from 2009 to 2013.  Look for some of my more recent session recordings on my Youtube or Soundcloud pages, or on my Facebook page, including recordings from my current session with Frankie McDonagh at the Bunratty Tavern in Reading.

Trip in 1913

From yesterday, at Tommy Doyle's.  I've decided to be less verbose in the interest of posting more often.

Wednesday, January 23, 2013

Hello the internet!  I have been posting here only very intermittently of late, due to a lack of recording equipment and a lack of time.  I have been able to remedy the former and have largely made peace with the latter.  Here are a few songs and tunes from this Sunday's session at Tommy Doyle's.

The Boys in the Band

My most recently completed song, this one is about six months old.  Fans of Beairtle Ó Domhnaill (if you're not, you should be) will recognize a strong similarity to his 'Rodeo Man.'  I am delighted to help bring the Gaeltacht Country sound back full circle.  Any resemblance of the boys and girl in this song to actual people is purely coincidental, except when it isn't.

Little Musgrave

My version of Musgrave has been brewing for a year or so, and while I am not quite done with it, I thought this one was good enough to share.

Before He Turned Nineteen

Another recording of my song for Red Hart, my Nazi-killin' grandpa.

The Jug of Punch/Cottage Grove/Jenny's Chickens

Seáinín has finally made a set out of these tunes, which had long been homeless.  Balance isn't the best, but I did what I could with my limited Audacity skills to bring up the fiddle.  Feedback appreciated.

Over the Moor to Maggie/Fred Finn's/The Hunter's House

Some old favorites.

Tommy Doyle's, Spring/Summer 2011

I haven't posted very much here since my own recorder gave up the ghost last year, so I thought I would share a few things that Rosanne Santucci recorded since then.

A great set here, which includes some tunes from the oft-mentioned Bev-Billy pipeline. I wouldn't mind if someone other than David would learn that last tune.

Some of my favorite tunes, led off with a lovely slow reel from Eric Cox.

All you people ought to be like me (and Cisco) and sing about Sacco and Vanzetti.

A Couple of New Songs

Here are some of the fruits of my recent songwriting labors. They were both recorded at the Tommy Doyle's session, in the waning days of the old year.

Something New

Been neglecting this place forever -- here is some video from Tommy Doyle's. Many thanks to Ryan Abernathey for shooting and editing this video! If you click through to YouTube, you can watch in HD.

Tommy Doyle's 05/14/09

Heya folks -- a couple of songs here from my humble self, and some wicked banjo from Brian. It seems we were all in a Canadian state of mind that night.

Mary Ann

I learned this Nova Scotia song when I was in high school. Actual Canadians never seem to have heard of it.

Frosty Morning/Brenda Stubbert's

An old time tune paired with a Cape Breton reel.

The Field Behind the Plough

I hope Stan was smiling down at us from Canadian heaven.
